Supporters around the world, who have been misled by DOC statements in the past, immediately called the institution and demanded confirmation from Mumia himself.

I begin with the greeting of peace, As-Salaamu Alaikum,
I hope all is well and thank you for your time. As you may know, my father Imam Jamil Al-Amin, formerly civil rights leader and humanitarian H. Rap Brown, was convicted of murder in 2002.
Firstly, I wish you all the very best of holidays in which you celebrate. I have been remiss by not sending out a strong Kwanzaa recognition and new years greeting. I want to acknowledge receipt of your letters, cards, and concerns. I’m humbled by your continued efforts that acknowledge my circumstances year after year.
